Please don’t white out names and faces. Idiocy should not be anonymous, and these people need to be publicly shamed. So what if you get sued? No jury on Earth will convict you.
I’m curious as to where these people are from. If I didn’t think it would take up too much of your time, I would request you to put up a demographic chart from time to time showing the different countries these people come from. Results might be interesting.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if most of those comments were made by people from the USA. As someone who was born and raised in cornbread country, the midwest, and now lives in hippyville pacific northwest, it’s disheartening how STUPID our populace is.
My roommate just had a fantastic idea. Is there any way to create a map, with pinpoints of where these submissions come from? Would love to see if a trend develops.
The big question I have, though it may not be answerable, is how the heck these people come across The Onion articles in the first place? Since they have no clue they’re reading satire. I see some “via” posts, where one of their facebook friends posted previously, but there aren’t many of those. Some of the comments above are suggesting some posters might not be American, but I don’t buy that; their speech patterns seem entirely ‘merican. Is The Onion showing up in Google news results or something? I’m baffled.
I was wondering if you could have a click-through link to the article that they’re referring to? Sometimes it is referenced in the blunder but either way it usually makes the article itself more enticing.
I agree with all of the suggestions above of adding the demographics of the people who post them seriously and links to the articles themselves. Sometimes the comments refer to parts of the article not in the brief, so it’s not as funny as it should be.
Great work otherwise — surprised I just found out about this site today!
Love the LU site, but can you please put an RSS feed on it?
Thanks for the idea. I’ve put a link on the page and am also posting it here: http://literallyunbelievable.tumblr.com/rss

Well, maybe this one would:

I agree.
Not everyone has tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars available for legal defense.

Yeah, you pretty much have the next hit website here.
Truly frightening.
Truly hilarious.
Hope to see more!

I LOVE your site, Hudson. “Literally Unbelievable” has just doubled the fun I get out of The Onion. Brilliant, and thank you.
Outstanding.

The most terrifying thought I have when reading those comments is — these people probably VOTE.
